Hello to all
Just wanted to drop a quick note to recap the show we had last night in Monterey. I was incredibly fortunate have numerous friends come to play at the show – Nick Torres who handled the lion’s share of the vocals with those wonderful pipes of his, Greg Nease and his always incredible guitar playing (and he got a lead vocal(!) as well), Glen Polson, a great friend who came into town all the way from Kitchener, Ontario to play some tasty guitar, and Marilyn Miller, who is becoming a bit of a tour-de-force on the local open mike circuit. And, of course, Karen Berger making everything sound a lot better with her accompaniment on piano.
We had a two-hour show; the set list (with personnel) as follows:
Jump Jive and Wail (Nick, Greg, Karen and me)
Summer Wages (Nick, Greg, Karen and me)
Spooky (Nick, Greg, Karen and me)
So Far Away (Greg, Karen and me)
Some Beach (Nick, Glen, Karen and me)
Rocket Man (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
Moondance (Nick, Glen,Greg, Karen and me)
Wish You Were Here (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
Fire (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
Roller Derby Queen (Greg singing lead!)
Whiter Shade of Pale (Glen, Karen and me)
Alison (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
Barstool Blues (Marilyn solo)
Hallelujah (Marilyn, Glen and me)
Angel from Montgomery (Marilyn, Greg, Karen and me)
Georgia on my Mind (Nick and Karen)
1952 Vincent Black Lightning (Nick and me)
Margaret Has a Lover (Karen and me)
Babylon (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
Sultans of Swing (Nick, Glen, Greg, Karen and me)
The Weight (Nick, Glen, Marilyn, Greg, Karen and me)
Highlights (and laughs) were many, but standouts were Nick’s performance of Alison and 1952 Vincent Black Lightning, Glen and Marilyn’s performance of Hallelujah, a rare lead vocal from Greg on the wonderful Jim Croce song, Roller Derby Queen, and the incredible musical introduction I played on Whiter Shade of Pale, only to discover when the rest of the band joined in that I hadn’t taken my capo off from the previous song and was in a totally different key than we’d agreed to! Not to mention the whole crowd singing along with all the choruses on The Weight to close the show. Bliss!
Rumor has it that there are audio and video recordings that were made, and, sure enough, they are starting to surface. You can find a video of Alison, courtesty of Nick Torres, at this page. I’ll post up more links as they start to pop up.
To top things off, we had a truly wonderful crowd. I can’t thank those of you who came enough for assisting in the performance and for sharing the whole experience with us. And your singing was terrific! Let’s do another show soon!
Peace

Hi David,
I have been making use of your easy songs for beginners section of the Guitar Noise website. They have been helpful to me and I was thoroughly enjoying them (I am now a master of Horse with No Name). The last few days the site has been unavailable. Is the Guitar Noise site down? If so will it be back? If not are those lessons you wrote available elswhere?
Thanks for all the effort they must have taken.

Hi Rob
Thanks for writing and thank you as well for your kind words concering my lessons at Guitar Noise.
Paul Hackett, who created and still owns and runs the website, has been working on a new and (hopefully) improved version of the Guitar Noise site, one that will allow both he and I to do a lot more editing and uploading of articles with a bit more ease.
But, as with many things, there are still some bugs being worked out. Not to worry, the site is still up and running. But give us a bit of time and patience. If you’re not able to log on in the next two days, write me again (either here or at my email address:
dhodgeguitar@aol.com
which, by the way, is a lot easier way to reach me) and I’ll see what we can do on our end.
Hope this helps and I look forward to chatting with you again soon.
Peace
